Logic puzzle
I'm too dumb to work out any logic puzzles so you guys have a shot at it.
There are 3 persons with you in an IRC channel. They call themselves G, L and B. You know they're alex, xia and phill84, but you don't know which one is which, and your task is to correctly identify them. There are 3 rules that help (or deter?) you with your task.
- You may ask three questions. You are free to ask whoever you want, but each question can only be directed at one person. You may ask the same person multiple questions, or multiple persons the same question, as long as the total number of questions asked is three. The questions must be answerable by Yes or No.
- alex may not always give a truthful answer to your questions. He sometimes tells the truth, sometimes lies. xia will always tell the truth, and phill84 will always lie. For example, if you ask G "is L phill84?" if G is xia you will get a truthful answer, but if G is alex you won't know if the answer is trustworthy or not.
- G, L and B will not answer your questions with Yes or No directly. They will answer in an ancient tongue, Da or Va, but you don't know which means Yes and which means No. Their meanings will not change, i.e., if Da means Yes and Va means No, it will remain that way throughout the session. Note that even if you ask them questions like "does Da mean Yes?" their answers will still only be Da or Va.
So how do you identify who is who in 3 questions?
